Fabric is the most important factor which you use for sewing and making beautiful and self –designed clothes. It is very important to know more about fabrics, its types, the quality and construction along with other factors which ensure you have a great dress fabric to turn it into dress.

How you will choose or Buy well for your sewing projects

  • Choosing the fabric by its weight : There are although different types of fabric  but another kind of classification by weight is necessary to understand while choosing as particular kind of fabrics vary in weight are specifically for specific kind of clothes. Like heavy weighted are for pants and jackets whereas light ones are for summer dresses.  Experiment and something bend with the rules will be appreciated if it doesn’t neglect the soul- purpose, characteristics and durability of any cloth towards its fabric type. There are heavy weighted fabrics, light weighted fabrics, mid-light fabrics etc
  • Determining the Fibres:  Type also depends on the fiber of the fabrics. There are some fabrics which are composition of two or more than two fibers. For example cotton and polyester.
  • Choosing by Type of fibers according to its  form : The categories explaining  the forms of fabrics like in three types:
  • Natural fibers:  Naturally obtained fibers from plants and cropping like cotton.
  • Protein fibers : Fibers obtained from animals like silk and wool
  • Manufactured/Artificial fibers: Manmade chemically manufactured for the use.
  • Choosing by Construction of Fabrics:  There are three primary type of fabric constructions

    1. Knit: They are actually stretchable and made from interloping yarns in different ways.
    2. Woven:  The pattern kind of construction weaved and can be stretchable according to the fiber type.
    3. Non-Woven: The unconventional and Non-traditional methods of weaving or construction fall under this kind.
