How to clean a synthetic leather jacket

A faux leather jacket is a proud and prized possession of anyone who has one in their wardrobe. But since it is made of synthetic leather, it is less durable than real leather. But nevertheless, neither should be washed regularly or dry cleaned due to the risk of damaging the fiber. Cleaning it might be tricky but not impossible. Do not treat these jackets for men and women as mens shorts and put them in a washing machine. Here is how it canbe done.

  1. Clean it with a microfiber cloth

Most items of faux leather clothing are often made from polyurethane and viscose. They repel dirt most of the times, but it is advisable to dust the jacket regularly as a precaution. A delicate sponge or a microfiber cloth canbe used for this purpose.Image result for How to clean a synthetic leather jacket

  1. Soap and warm water solution

Never, ever wash your leather jackets for men, synthetic or otherwise with a detergent. It will damage your beloved jacket beyond repair. But what about those clothes that we cannot wash? We rub them with alcohol based all purpose cleaner (like Formula 409) or simply with a rubbing alcohol. To do this, just dampen a cloth with the alcohol based liquid and rub the portion that is stained with it. But it must only be done as a last resort because regular use of alcohol on the jacket, especially on a dark colored one, may permanently lighten that portion.

  1. Dry Airing To Get Rid Of The Smell

Now you have cleaned your jacket, but it still has that persisting smell?  Getting rid of that smell is easier than you think. You can simply wrap it in a newspaper for 3-4 days, and the smell will eventually dissipate within that time. Another option is mix distilled vinegar with warm water in a ratio 1:2 and pour it into a spray bottle. You can spray the mixture on some part of the jacket and wipe it with a clean cloth so that it may permeate the fabric. Let it air dry for sometime to get rid of the smell.
